There are many benefits of drinking water for a healthy body and mind, yet many still allow themselves to get dehydrated. If this is you, read on…
Around 60% of our body is water and it plays a vital role in regulating our body temperature, keeping our skin healthy and reducing fatigue. But what a lot of people underestimate is the importance it plays when exercising. We lose a lot of fluid when exercising. If you don’t top this up, you’ll feel tired more quickly and you won’t be able to control your body temperature as well. Staying hydrated helps boost our metabolism and our ability to burn fat and also helps reduce injuries when training as it keeps our joints lubricated. So staying hydrated is especially important when increasing your exercise and is one of the things we encourage our FIT IN SIX soldiers to keep track of during our six week programme.
The more hydrated you are, the more efficiently your body works.
Aim to drink water consistantly throughout the day – at least 2 litres. This may seem like a lot at first if you’re not used to it but it will soon become a healthy habit. Carry a bottle of water with you all day to remind you to stay hydrated and remember to drink before, during and after exercise.
Tip: If you don’t like drinking water on it’s own, try adding a slice of lemon, lime, or fresh mint.
