Breakfast is often named the most important meal of the day. But why is that? And what should we be eating/avoiding?

After a morning HIIT class, I always start my day with a vegan protein shake, that’s just my personal preference, followed by some porridge or a fruit bowl like the one pictured below. I find that for me, this gives me the protein and carbs my body needs following exercise. I tend to then have a second breakfast, something that includes protein – my go to is scrambled eggs, mashed avocado with a piece of sourdough bread with smoked salmon. Getting protein in after a workout is important for muscle growth and repair, which is something not to be underestimated.

Skipping breakfast is not ideal, for many reasons, unless you are fasting and being guided by a professional to do so. It’s important to fuel our bodies well so that they can perform at optimal levels for us throughout the day.
